Theatre

People living with HIV&AIDS are often not equipped to express themselves in a public space. To date there exists little space and opportunity for people living with HIV&AIDS to articulate their feelings about being HIV positive and being a positive person living in Indonesia. To address this lack of a communicative space  we established the Melati Theatre group in 2008.

All stories presented by the group are from personal life experiences, scripted from real daily dialogue and based on emotions true to the individual biographies of people living with HIV&AIDS – especially female sex workers. The theatre group, run by staff and support group members, uses a modern medium and works with minimal property in order for the audience to focus on the players themselves.
